Our name

Why we're called Amal

Amal (أمل) is an Arabic word meaning hope. It's the quiet belief that, with the right support at the right moment, things can get better — for a child settling into a new activity, a parent navigating a diagnosis, or a mother finding her feet after birth.

That belief sits behind everything we do at Amal Hub: three programmes, one community.

Why we exist

Families in Islington told us what was missing

Parents of children with SEND told us they often felt isolated and struggled to find welcoming, non-judgemental spaces where they could connect with others who truly understood their experiences. Many also wanted more inclusive activities where their children could participate, build confidence and feel a genuine sense of belonging.

At the same time, many new and expectant parents told us they wanted informal, community-based support to improve their wellbeing before problems reached crisis point.

Amal Hub was created with our community to bridge these gaps, providing peer-led support, inclusive activities and family wellbeing programmes that complement—not replace—existing local services.
